1. About GovID

GovID is a single sign-in account operated by GovSource Public Safety LLC ("GovSource", "we", "us"). It lets you use GovSource.com, the National Law Enforcement Hiring Network (NLEHN.org), OfficerTestPrep.com and any other site we connect to it (each a "connected site") with one account, and keep your profile, applications and records in one place.

2. Who can have an account

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding agreement. Each account is for one person. You may not create an account for someone else unless they have authorized you to do so, and you may not create an account if we have previously closed yours for breaking these terms.

3. Your account and security

  • Keep your password, one-time codes, backup codes, passkeys and security keys private, and do not share your account. GovID will never ask you for a code: never give one to anyone who calls, texts or emails you.
  • We strongly recommend adding a passkey, a security key or an authenticator app, and saving your backup codes somewhere safe. If you turn off email codes and lose your other methods and backup codes, we may need to verify your identity again before we can restore access.
  • You are responsible for activity on your account unless it results from our failure to protect it.
  • Tell us right away at support@govid.net if you think someone else has used your account.
  • Keep your email address current so you receive sign-in codes and important notices.

4. Accurate information

Information in your account, profile and applications must be true, complete and your own. Public safety employers, training providers and certifying bodies may rely on it. Providing false or misleading information, or uploading altered or fraudulent documents, may lead to the closure of your account and the rejection of any related application, and may be reported to the agency or authority concerned.

5. Roles and verification

Some roles, such as recruiter, agency staff or academy staff, give access to additional tools or information. We may ask for proof of your role or employment before granting access and may remove access if it can no longer be verified or is misused. Verified IDs, such as Law Enforcement, Corrections, Agency Recruiter or Military & Veteran, are confirmed by a person on our team. You must upload only documents that belong to you and that you are allowed to share. Do not upload copies of federal credentials or military ID cards. Submitting a false, altered or borrowed document ends your GovID, and we may tell the agency named in it. Tell us, or update your GovID, when your status changes, for example when you leave an agency or retire. Information you see through a role may be used only for the purpose it was provided and must be protected as required by law and your organization's policies.

6. Connected sites and services

When you sign in to a connected site with GovID, that site receives the account details described in our Privacy Notice. Services on a connected site, such as eligibility reviews, courses, testing or job applications, may have their own terms, fees and policies, which apply to those services in addition to these terms.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • impersonate anyone or misrepresent your identity, employment or authority;
  • access or try to access accounts, records or areas you are not authorized to use;
  • copy, collect or export other users' information except as your authorized role allows;
  • interfere with the security or operation of GovID, including by probing for weaknesses, overloading the service or using automated tools to access it without our permission;
  • upload malware, or content that is unlawful, harassing or infringes someone else's rights; or
  • use GovID for any unlawful purpose.

8. Your information and documents

You keep ownership of the information and documents you provide. You give GovSource permission to store, process and display them, and to share them as described in our Privacy Notice and as you direct, so that we can provide GovID and the services you request. You confirm that you have the right to provide everything you upload.

9. Fees and payments

A GovID account is free. Some services on connected sites carry fees, which are shown before you pay and are governed by that service's terms, including any refund policy. Payments are processed by our payment processor. If you choose to save a card for future payments, it is stored by the processor, and you can remove it at any time.

10. No guarantee of outcomes

GovSource is not a government agency. Hiring, certification, eligibility and licensing decisions are made by the relevant employers, agencies and certifying bodies. Having a GovID account, using a connected service or paying a fee does not guarantee employment, eligibility, certification or any other outcome.

11. Suspension and closing accounts

You may close your account at any time from your account page or by contacting us. We may suspend or close an account, or limit access to a role, if we reasonably believe these terms have been broken, the account is being used fraudulently or puts others at risk, or we are required to by law. Where appropriate, we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond. Records we are required to keep will be kept as described in our Privacy Notice.

12. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

We work to keep GovID available and secure, but it is provided "as is" and "as available", and we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the fullest extent permitted by law, GovSource is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost opportunities or data, arising from your use of GovID, and our total liability for any claim relating to GovID is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim or one hundred U.S. dollars. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Orange County, Florida, and you and GovSource agree to the jurisdiction of those courts. Before filing a claim, please contact us so we can try to resolve it informally.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will post the new version here with a new effective date, and if the changes are significant we will tell you by email or when you sign in. Continuing to use GovID after the changes take effect means you accept them.
