GovID

Privacy Notice

Effective September 30, 2026

The short version

  • GovID is the single sign-in account for GovSource.com, the National Law Enforcement Hiring Network (NLEHN.org) and OfficerTestPrep.com.
  • We collect what we need to run your account and the services you choose to use.
  • We do not sell your personal information and we do not use it for advertising.
  • Connected sites receive only the account details they need to serve you. Detailed profile, application and background information is shared with an agency only when you choose to share it.
  • You can see, correct and delete your information. Email support@govid.net for help.
  • We never ask for your Social Security number, and we will never call, text or email you asking for a sign-in code.

Our privacy promises to you

  • Your information is yours. We never sell, rent or trade it.
  • You decide who sees it. A connected site or agency sees your verified details only after you choose to sign in there or share them.
  • You can see every connection. My GovID lists the sites you use with your GovID.
  • You can take it back. You can disconnect a site or delete your GovID at any time.
  • A person checks your documents. ID photos and selfies are reviewed by trained GovSource staff and are never shown to agencies or connected sites.

Who we are

GovID is operated by GovSource Public Safety LLC ("GovSource", "we", "us"), a Florida company. This notice explains how we handle personal information through GovID.net and the GovID account you use to sign in to our connected sites.

Each connected site may also publish its own privacy notice for the services it provides there, such as payments or course enrollment. Where a connected site's notice covers a service, that notice applies to that service.

Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details: your name, email address, mobile number (if you add one) and password. We store passwords only in a protected, hashed form and cannot read them.
  • Roles and services: the roles you request (for example career seeker, recruiter or agency staff) and the organization details you provide to verify them.
  • Profile and application information: if you build a career profile or complete an application, the details you enter, such as employment, education, training, certification and military service history, references and contact information.
  • Documents: files you upload, such as a résumé, certificates, training records or forms.
  • Support requests: messages you send us and our replies.

Information created when you use GovID

  • Your GovID number and account status.
  • Verification and security records, such as when your email or phone was verified, sign-in times, one-time codes issued, and security events.
  • Technical information such as your IP address, browser type and device, used to keep accounts secure and to diagnose problems.
  • Records of which connected sites you have signed in to and the access you have granted them.

Information from others

Connected sites may tell GovID about your use of their services, for example that you registered for a course or that the status of an application changed, so your account can show it in one place. An organization you work with may confirm your role or employment when you ask us to verify it. If you were invited or pre-registered for an event, the organizer may have provided your name and contact details to create your account.

How we use your information

  • To create and run your account, verify your identity and contact details, and sign you in to connected sites.
  • To protect accounts, including sending sign-in codes, detecting misuse and keeping security logs.
  • To provide the services you request, such as saving your profile, processing an application or passing your details to a connected site you choose to use.
  • To send you service messages, such as verification codes, security alerts, receipts and updates about your applications or cases.
  • To answer support requests.
  • To meet legal, regulatory and record-keeping obligations and to enforce our Account Terms.

We will ask for your consent before sending you marketing email, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

How connected sites use your GovID

When you sign in to a connected site with GovID, that site receives your GovID number, name, email address, whether your email is verified, your mobile number if you have added one, and the roles and services on your account. Each site uses this to create or match your account there.

Detailed profile, application and background information stays in GovID. It is shared with a connected site, agency or background investigator only when you choose to submit an application or authorize the disclosure, and only for that purpose.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for targeted advertising. We share it only as follows:

  • Connected sites operated by GovSource, as described above.
  • Agencies and employers you choose to apply to, and the background investigators working for them, when you authorize it.
  • Service providers who work for us under contract and may use the information only to provide their service, including website hosting, email delivery, text-message verification and payment processing. Card payments on connected sites are handled by our payment processor; we do not receive or store full card numbers.
  • Legal and safety reasons: when required by law, subpoena or court order, or when needed to protect the rights, property or safety of our users, the public or GovSource.
  • Business changes: if GovSource is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, subject to this notice.

Cookies

GovID uses cookies that are needed for the site to work: to keep you signed in, to remember a sign-up in progress so you are signed in once your email is verified, and to protect forms against misuse. We do not use advertising cookies. If you block these cookies, you will not be able to sign in.

ID photos, selfies and service documents

When you verify your identity or your law enforcement, agency or military status, you upload photos of a government photo ID, a live selfie, and documents such as an agency ID card, paystub, SF-50 or DD-214.

  • Why: only to confirm that you are who you say you are and that your status is real, and to prevent fraud.
  • How: a trained member of the GovSource verification team compares the photos by eye. GovID does not use facial recognition and does not create face templates, face geometry or other biometric identifiers from your photos.
  • Who sees them: only authorized verification staff. Agencies and connected sites see the result (for example "Sworn Law Enforcement · Confirmed"), never the photos.
  • What we don't accept: we never ask for your Social Security number, and we don't accept copies of federal ID credentials, such as federal law enforcement credentials or military ID cards, because federal law restricts copying them.
  • How long: after a review, the photos are no longer shown in your account. We keep a secure record of the verification only as long as needed to confirm and audit it, and we delete it when you delete your GovID, unless the law requires us to keep it longer.

How we protect your information

You can protect your sign-in with a passkey, a security key, an authenticator app or email codes, and with one-time backup codes. We email you whenever a sign-in method is added or removed. GovID will never call, text or email you asking for a code: if anyone asks for your code, it's a scam. Only enter a code on govid.net when you are signing in.

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, one-time sign-in codes, limits on repeated attempts, role-based staff access and audit logging. Sensitive records and uploaded documents on connected sites are stored encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password and tell us right away if you think your account has been misused.

How long we keep information

We keep your account information while your account is open. If you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information, except records we must keep to meet legal, regulatory, accounting or dispute-resolution obligations, such as payment records and records of an application or certification case that has been submitted. Security logs are kept for a limited time and then deleted.

Your choices and rights

  • See and update: you can view and change your account details from your GovID account page.
  • Get a copy: you can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct: you can ask us to fix information that is wrong.
  • Delete: you can ask us to delete your account and personal information, subject to the records we must keep.
  • Withdraw a sharing authorization: you can stop future sharing with an agency or site, although information already shared remains with that recipient under its own policies.
  • Email choices: you can unsubscribe from marketing messages. Service and security messages cannot be turned off while your account is open.

To make a request, email support@govid.net from the address on your account. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on it, and we will respond within 45 days. We will not treat you differently for making a request.

Age requirement

GovID is for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this notice

We may update this notice as our services change. We will post the new version here with a new effective date, and if the changes are significant we will tell you by email or when you sign in.
